Be prepared for a LOT of pictures in this post!
This week we did all sorts of fun learning activities. It amazes me every day to see how much they learn so quickly.
We of course continued some of the activities from last week, especially the Magna Tiles (absolutely LOVE those things!). But on Tuesday I decided to pull out our magnetic letters. I’d checked out the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom from the library and had not yet read it to them, so while they napped I set up this activity for them:
The idea I had was that we’d read the book once, then I’d go through it again and they would find the corresponding letter to put on the cookie sheet “tree.” What really happened was I read the book (which they enjoyed) and when I tried to get them to find the right letters, they just started grabbing all of them and transferring them all over the house.
And then decided it was way more fun to use the pans as drums.
Oh, well. If you can’t beat ’em, give them wooden spoons for drum sticks!
The next day N brought out the letters and I asked them “Where’s the K for Kyla?” and they found it. They also found “L for Lucas,” “M for Mama,” “D for Daddy,” and “O for octopus.”
I’ve now decided I’m going to focus on one letter each week the way I did the colors.
Tot Time- Bears
This was week two of Tot Time with our friends. The theme this week was Bears and we met at our friends’ house.
We’ve decided to put together a personalized set of alphabet flash cards by taking pictures of them with objects that start with the different letters. This week we did “B is for Bear.”
We read the book Going on a Bear Hunt, then went on a hunt together. We went through a tunnel, around a table, over a foil path, up the ladder and down the slide!
We then gathered all the teddy bears to a big blanket and had a Teddy Bear Picnic. Both Kyla and Lucas enjoyed “feeding” the bears.
Of course, they got a lot of playing in, too. And Lucas showed off his excellent gross motor skills by climbing into and out of E & N’s cribs. I just hope he didn’t teach them any bad habits!
I’m linking up to Tot School. To see more activities for little ones, visit Tot School.
